We’ve not written in a few weeks, since we’ve been busy working on a lot of new translation projects – we hope you’ve not missed us too much! Although we haven’t delivered too much new work in the past few weeks, we have started a whole load of new projects, some of which are with new NGOs. Well then, let’s take a look…
The first organisation we’ve welcomed into our ranks has been Code Club UA, a Ukrainian organisation which teaches young people how to code. In an increasingly technological world, there’s no denying how important their impact will be in improving the employment prospects of the coming generations. As Code Club UA belongs to a wider international group of code charities, they required us to translate some educational material from English into Ukrainian. It’s actually proved quite difficult to find volunteers for this project, so if you or any of your friends would be able to help us out, that would be incredible! Just get in touch with us here: info@mondo-lingua.org.
We’ve also started our first collaboration with Nadia Sánchez and her Colombian organisation, She-Is. This charity strives for gender equality and female empowerment, especially in families that have been affected by wars and conflicts. Nadia’s influence is getting more important every day, and her organisation is certainly one to watch for the near future. Our first project has been the translation of four documents (5,894 words) from Spanish into English, so that She-Is can secure some financing from American institutions. We look forward to delivering these translations in early June.
Our first collaboration with the Jesuits Migrant Service Spain is a big one: This NGO, which helps all kind of migrants – including victims of human trafficking – and fights for their rights, has asked us to translate a 17,437-word report from Spanish into English. Thankfully, we’ve already managed to find some very helpful volunteers who will help us to meet our deadline of the end of May.
Gaia Education have also started their first work with us: the translation of a video and subsequent voiceover work. This is a rather unique assignment for us, but we’ve managed to find two volunteers who are willing to give it their best shot – good luck to both of them! Gaia Education provides education on sustainable living in regions which are often handicapped by adverse weather conditions or planetary boundaries.
PerMondo would like to give a warm welcome to all of our new NGOs – here’s to a longstanding and happy collaboration!
Since the last time, we’ve managed to wrap up three translation projects for various NGOs. The first has been the English-Spanish translation of 8,049 words for our pals at the National Down Syndrome Congress. We owe a big thanks for this important project to the translators Elena Dorta Ramallo and Cristina L. Regueiro, as well as our proofreader Lourdes Gianina Avila.
Furthermore, our latest project with the World Movement of Christian Workers has been completed. This huge task involved us translating 5 texts with a huge variety of language combinations. Our helpful volunteers on this project were: Alison Tomblin, Christina Schaberger, Gareth Harding, Isobel White, Juan Alfonso Cuesta del Castillo, Kristina Scuglia, Linka Masson, Lisa Hannemann, Lizet Pantaleon, Maria Garza, Nadine Gebauer-Haspel, Noelia Salcedo, Patricia Bobak, Philip Hall, Sarah Boucher, Verena Müller and Pauline Junca.
The final project we completed was a quick-fire translation for Entreculturas. The 1,052 words were translated from Spanish into English by our own Thomas McGuinn.
Next week is also set to be another one in which we’ll be working fiercely on translations and hopefully providing NGOs with even more of our wonderful translators’ hard work.
Until then, have a great weekend!
