There is surely no other way to start this week’s blog than by addressing the major news of the past couple of weeks- after months of debate and speculation, the big contest finally arrived. And against all the odds, the bold, well-organised, and more likeable challenger was overcome by a wealthy, spoilt, and well-groomed opponent. Of course, I’m talking about Cristiano Ronaldo’s dismantling of Atlético Madrid in the Madrid derby last weekend. Trump? Who’s he? Anyway, we’ve managed to put all of that drama behind us at PerMondo as we conclude what has been another highly active week.

Firstly, let’s start with some news of our own. For those of you who didn’t read our last blog, we have recently completed a large proofreading project for the medical organisation the Marijke Foundation. We are proud to announce that their new book, proofread and reviewed by PerMondo, has now been published, and we are now looking forward to furthering our collaboration with the Foundation by translating the book into French, German, Spanish and Italian. For those of you who are interested in reading this new release or finding out more about what the organisation offers, we would encourage you to get in contact with the organisation on their website.

Welcome to our latest blog! It was the ancient Greek philosopher Seneca who once said that “Travel and change of place impart new vigour to the mind”.  Well this quote couldn’t have been more appropriate for us at PerMondo this week, as we have finished projects for organisations in five different countries! I hope you’ve got your passport, suitcase and travel mug at hand, because you’re about to go all over Europe!

Let’s begin our trip in Spain, home to PerMondo, and also to our first new organisation of the week: the Union Romani, which is based in Barcelona. This NGO is dedicated to supporting Spain’s gypsy community, working together with the International Union Romani on activities designed to gain recognition of the gypsy culture. We’re very grateful for Ann Southwick, who has completed our debut project with this organisation, translating into English a very informative article about Brazil’s former gypsy president Juscelino Kubitschek de Oliveira.

The second new organisation of the week is located France. We are proud to have taken on the first two projects for French organisation Association Gibraltar 2017. The NGO is organising a bike ride of an astonishing 5,000km in April and May next year in order to raise awareness for disability and raise money for two associations: “Ensemble avec Nolan” and “FégréAction”.

Welcome to our first PerMondo update of October!

Hi! I´m Matt, PerMondo’s latest intern and, following Thomas’s departure, I will be keeping you company over the coming few months!

So, here we are: as September 2016 came to a close last week, we prepare to say goodbye to the blistering summer heat of the past few months and begin rummaging around our wardrobes for our sweaters! Fortunately, we’re still enjoying some warmth here in Spain, and at PerMondo our brain power has kept us extra warm after a very busy week! This week we’ve had the privilege of working with many new volunteers on a great variety of projects .

Firstly, we’d like to extend a warm welcome to our two new NGOs! Firstly, to eN procesoS, an associated organisation which seeks to use knowledge to raise awareness and commitment of social issues. We would like to offer our thanks to Ife Fasanya, who has translated the organisation’s website, and also to John Ryan-Mills, who has translated the organisation’s piece on the socio-economic situation in the Canary Islands, both from Spanish into English.

Secondly, we have started our first ever collaboration with French NGO Forum des Organisations de Solidarité Internationale issues des Migrations, a national platform which leads and collaborates in initiatives which aid the integration of immigrants in France and the development of their country of origin.

Well, we didn’t think it was possible, but this week we’ve been even busier than the week before! The great majority of the words we’ve translated have come from our projects with the Research Institute for Waldorf Education (RIWE), which we’ll tell you about in a minute, but that certainly wasn’t all…

Our collaboration with RIWE goes back a long way, and we’d been working for a long time on the translations that we delivered this week. A grand total of 154,500 words were translated from English into Spanish by our wonderful volunteers, who were also kindly offered a reward for their services. We were helped out on these projects by: Carmen Antsuategi (55,477 words); Maialen Iriso (59,827 words); Estefanía Sánchez Rodríguez (18,279 words); and Rocío Sánchez Lajarín (20,867 words). We’d like to say a big thank-you to everyone involved!

As we continue to translate online content for the Internationale Giuseppe Verdi Stiftung, this week we managed to deliver our second batch of translations from German into English and Italian. We translated 5045 words in total, thanks to help from Amy Hillam, Katie Roskams, Thomas McGuinn, Alessio Di Rubbo and Debora Bassi.

Why do bees get all the credit for being so busy? We reckon it’s because people haven’t seen just how busy we’ve been over summer. And anyway, bees can’t translate…

It’s been an extremely busy few weeks at PerMondo, so much so that my fingers are aching as I pound away at the keyboard. We’ve no time to lose, so let’s get straight into the projects that we’ve completed over this past fortnight.

Our first two projects marked a continuation of our long-lasting collaboration with the Research Institute for Waldorf Education. As always for this NGO, we translated three manuscripts from English into Spanish. Ana Vila Ortega translated no less than 77,185 words, and Pamela Tiberi kindly chipped in with a further 4237. We’d like to say a big thank-you to both of our volunteers!

This week, we’ve also provided our friends at Place to B with their first ever French-English translations. The translation of their website (4418 words) was carried out by Harriet Thompson-Ball. And, following our instant success, we’re already discussing a long-term collaboration with this NGO. All credit for this is due to our wonderful volunteers.

Welcome to another PerMondo update! This week, we’ll mainly take a look at the important project that we’ve just completed for ECOFONDO. But let’s not forget the other projects that we’ve also managed to wrap up, all thanks to our tireless volunteers!

We began our collaboration with ECOFONDO back in April this year, and after helping to translate their Spanish website into English, in order to help them spread their environmental message across America, we then got to work on the translation of a further 5 documents (28,329 words). Here you can see an example of one of our translations .

There seems to be an intricate connection at the moment between the French, the name Paul – or variations of it – and huge international signings… As Manchester United prepare to launch a world-record bid to sign Paul Pogba from Juventus, PerMondo has sadly had to say goodbye to Pauline Junca this week, and yet in our own world-record bid to follow Francophonic trends, we’ve also welcomed our latest intern, Pauline Richer.

We’d like to take this opportunity to thank Pauline (photo) for all of her hard work over the past 6 months. The self-professed “busy woman” has provided PerMondo with invaluable support, at times having to fight back tears after England brushed off her beloved France to claim an elusive Grand Slam in the RBS Six Nations.

All of us are sad to see Pauline leave, especially the organisations that were in direct contact with her and have received so many translations thanks to her help.

Although Pauline may no longer be coordinating PerMondo projects in our office, she’s certainly not done with her collaboration… In July, she’ll be flying over to South Korea to represent PerMondo as an English-Spanish-French simultaneous interpreter at a two-week conference of the International Coordination of the Young Christian Workers Movement.

PerMondo is back with another update. This week, we’ll mainly look at our role as translation postmen, as we tell you about the projects that we’ve delivered, although we ought to give a warm welcome to two new NGOs…

The first is the France-based environmental organisation, Place to B, which strives to raise awareness of, and get more people talking about, climate change. Our first project with Place to B will be the translation of their website from French into English, which we hope to deliver in mid-July.

We’ve also started our first ever collaboration with another French NGO, Sentinelles. This honourable organisation comes to the aide of sick, wounded and impoverished children around the globe, and so we were more than happy to help them translate their newsletter for this month from French into English. This newsletter is to be published and sent to at least 30,000 readers, which just goes to show that PerMondo offers tremendous opportunities for aspiring translators to get their name out there.

This week has also been a week of completed projects. Our first one was the French-English translation of two documents for L’Envol. The first document was kindly translated by Muriel Young, whose translation was then proofread by Elizabeth Daw, and Elliot Brooker and Shana Heslin translated and proofread a slideshow.

Welcome to another PerMondo update – brace yourselves, because we’ve got a lot to tell you!

Let’s firstly tell you about the new projects that we’ve received from our loyal NGOs this week…

…The National Down Syndrome Congress has asked us to translate a short article from English into Spanish, which is currently being proofread and should be delivered soon.

We’ve also taken on two new huge projects for the Research Institute for Waldorf Education: We’re firstly translating a 77,192-word book on the teaching of history from English into Spanish; and similar articles with a total of 4076 words. We’re extremely grateful to the organisation, as they have yet again been able to offer our helpful volunteers a payment for their services!

Our final new project this week is somewhat different and exciting: The International Coordination of the Young Christian Workers Movement requires a native French interpreter for simultaneous Spanish and English interpreting for their International Meeting in Seoul in August this year. We’re delighted to announce that our very own Pauline Junca will be travelling over there to provide her services at this exciting event. We’re grateful to the organisation for covering all travel and accommodation costs!

As we reach the end of May and the sun’s summer rays start to warm our backs, PerMondo has used this solar energy to recharge its batteries and complete a huge amount of translations. Before we take a look at the work that has come to an end this week, let’s look at the new projects that we’ve got going on…

We’ve taken on an extremely interesting proofreading project for the moneyless traveller, Benjamin Lesage, and his Sans un Sou en poche project. We look forward to publishing the English translation of his self-written book on how to live a healthier and happier life without money in mid-June.

We’re happy to welcome back our old friends from Únete al Planeta who have just started a new YouTube project and need our help translating some short informational videos on how we can all protect our Earth. We’ll keep you posted on our progress!

Our final new translation project is somewhat different from what we’re used to; Salvador Fernández Prieto is running his own petition for the removal of artificial carcinogens from cigarettes manufactured and sold in the EU. His Avaaz campaign is set to attract over 250,000 signatures, and the English, German, French, Italian and Portuguese versions are coming soon…

Our latest translation project for Coordination SUD and the IFP has been brought to a close.
